Dr. Michael Coenen

Dr. Michael Coenen is Managing Director of the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and supports Düsseldorf Competition Economics as a senior economist. He is specialised on issues in economics of regulation and competition policy, in particular concerning network industries and health policy. Before joining DICE, Michael was a member of the Scientific Staff of the German Monopolies Commission. There, he was in charge of topics of regulation in energy supply networks, water supply networks and health policy and of topics in merger control.

Michael studied Economics at the University of Bonn and at Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, UK. He earned his doctoral degree at University of Cologne with a thesis on spectrum trading.
